• Dave Vonk - Elementary Principal

Hello and welcome to the Okoboji Elementary School (OES) website! I am humbled and honored to be able to serve our students, community, and staff as the Elementary Principal at OES! I began my career in education in 2008 in Canton, South Dakota teaching 2nd grade. After one year I was hired in my hometown and served in the Rock Valley Community School District for 7 years as a 2nd grade teacher, 3rd grade teacher, and also as an instructional coach. I even have two years of experience in the private sector, which has given me a unique perspective on the education world. 2018 marks the beginning of my time in the Okoboji Community School District and I look forward to serving here for many years to come.

As a district, we pride ourselves in providing unique learning opportunities for all students. More specifically, we take pride in Pioneering Pathways for Every Student. We recognize the importance of a diverse and innovative educational experience, even at a very young age. Our staff at OES is second to none and will work tirelessly to prepare your child for a productive life in a changing world.

My work in education is framed by 4 core beliefs that I have established:

    • Education is about people
    • All members of Team Okoboji should be treated with respect and dignity at all times
    • Everyone has value and everyone has a pathway to follow
    • Pioneering Pathways for Every Student requires all stakeholders to work together

The last belief is one that is pertinent to anyone reading this bio. I urge you to become a part of the education of our children. Be a part of Team Okoboji at home and in our community! I’d love to sit down and meet with you to see how we can build a stronger relationship to prepare our children for a productive life in a changing world. I have an electronic calendar that I keep up to date and will allow you to schedule time to meet or talk on the phone. Please click here to access that calendar!

Once again, I am humbled and honored to be able to serve our students, community, and staff. Go Pioneers!
