Join us tomorrow night for the 2026 Homecoming Coronation on Wednesday evening starting at 7PM in the South Gym! We will meet the court and Grand Marshals Brad and Laurie Simington, play Homecoming Court Trivia, crown our King and Queen, and play the championship matches of Beefcake Volleyball and Powderpuff Football. It is a great community event and you won't want to miss it!

Come extra hungry to the homecoming football game this Friday night because the The Nutty Bar Stand will be here selling the one and only Original Nutty Bar for $4 each to help raise funds for our fall musical, Mama Mia!

Due to the wet weather today, and forecast for tomorrow, we are holding off on homecoming window painting of area businesses. We don't want to have the rain wash it away and make the windows look bad! We will be watching the forecast to see if we can come out later in the week to paint the windows of the businesses that requested it! Rain rain go away!

Okoboji student leaders joined other students from across the Siouxland Conference in Sheldon for a day of connection, collaboration, and leadership. Students got to know one another, shared ideas, and discussed what they want their conference experience to look like as they help shape its future.

Okoboji Homecoming Grand Marshals are Brad and Laurie Simington!
Brad and Laurie Simington are graduates of Spencer High School, and both went on to the
University of Northern Iowa, where Brad graduated with a degree in Banking and Finance.
Laurie finished her college days at the University of Iowa with a secondary education degree.
They moved to Milford in 2002, where they raised two children, Taylor and Koleton, who are
both Okoboji graduates. Together they enjoy Church activities, biking, golfing, and time with
family and friends.
Brad and Laurie work at Farmers Savings Bank, where they and the FSB Team have taken an
active role in supporting the Okoboji Community School District. Over the years, the bank has
actively guided elementary school bank tours, has been business partners with the 2 nd grade
classes, participated in countless business education opportunities with Okoboji High School,
and has more recently been active with career days, adulting 101, finance education, and many
senior internships. Brad has spoken to several leadership classes and the National Honor
Society. Laurie has helped organize countless tailgates and other fun half-time activities that
have benefited both athletics and the arts. Laurie served on the Okoboji School Board for 7
years, has been a team member of both bond issues, and serves as the current President of the
Okoboji School Foundation, of which Brad is also a member.
In the years since moving to Milford, Brad & Laurie have influenced countless Okoboji students
and community members with their constant support and dedication to bettering the school,
community, and everyone they encounter. Our community is a better place because of the
impact they have had, and we are honored to have them as our 2026 Homecoming Grand
Marshals!

A huge thank you to Jim, the Training and Recruiting Coordinator at C.W. Suter, for taking the time to speak to our Pathways Exploration classes this morning!
If this company name sounds familiar, you may have seen the vehicles around OHS and OES as they are installing the HVAC and Plumbing for these two projects.
We are incredibly grateful for his dedication to sharing valuable career insights, leadership, and industry knowledge with our students. During his presentation, Jim highlighted Suter University, an incredible free 4-year HVAC and plumbing apprenticeship program offered to their employees. This US Department of Labor-certified program provides hands-on, one-on-one training led by licensed journeymen. It is an amazing pathway that allows students to gain real-world knowledge while earning their own journeyman's license completely debt-free.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Okoboji High School PE/Health Teacher Abby Goodlaxson has been named one of seven 2026 Regional Teachers of the Year for the State of Iowa! 🚜 Behind the scenes of world-class machinery! 🛠️
Our Pathways Exploration class had an incredible opportunity to tour the AGCO Jackson Operations facility in nearby Jackson, MN! 🌾🤖
From advanced robotics and precision welding to engineering, operations, and logistics, our students saw firsthand that modern manufacturing is a high-tech field filled with endless career possibilities. With an onsite physical and occupational therapist, nurse, chiropractor, IT, accounting, 3D printing, Public Relations and Marketing, AGCO offers career opportunities in every career cluster.
Students learned how many of these rewarding, high-demand paths don't require a traditional 4-year degree, offering incredible stability and room to grow right in our own backyard.
A huge thank you to the team at AGCO for hosting us, sharing your expertise, and inspiring the next generation of innovators! 🚀📐

Kicking off our guest speaker series in Pathways Explorations, SRO Keaton Verner told his pathway story. Dangerously close to not graduating from high school, Officer Verner got back onto the academic pathway to earn enough credits to graduate with his class.
After serving in the Iowa National Guard, he attended Hawkeye Community College then the police academy. Now an officer in Milford for nearly 10 years and an SRO for the Okoboji CSD for 4, Officer Verner is proud to share his story.
He credits Spencer High School guidance counselor Glenn Graettinger for believing in him, challenging him, and never ever giving up on him. Thank you for sharing your pathway with us!

OHS Students - Do you have questions about or need to make a change to your fall semester schedule? Do you have an "Empty" in your schedule? If so, you should plan to stop in the OHS Office and get help BEFORE the school year kicks off on Monday, August 24th. We have several opportunities for you to stop in and get this taken care of before the first day of school. You will be glad you took care of it ahead of time when you get here on the 24th!

"Eighty percent of success is showing up."
As we prepare to begin the 2026-2027 school year, it is worth the time to again look at the impact of attendance on success in high school. There is no greater predictor of success than attendance. Strong attendance helps students at every academic level and poor attendance can derail even the most academically gifted students.
This visual was created with data from the OHS graduating class of 2026. The numbers are real and the truth it reveals is clear as well. The single most important thing you can do to achieve success is to show up, every day.
