Craft Happens spent the final day of May Term at the Pearson Lakes Art Center learning basket weaving and finishing up their mosaics for Public Presentation Night! Big thank you to Holly and PLAC!
Man vs Wild spent the last two days in South Dakota exploring and hiking up Black Elk Peak. Even in late May they ran into snow on the trail! Come and hear all about the adventure at Public Presentation Night tonight between 5-7:30 at OHS!
On May Term day six, Homesteading 101 learned about beekeeping from Jordan Schmidt in the morning then headed to Walmart to get groceries for a day of canning tomorrow!
Garage Band spent the sixth day of May Term heading to Clear Lake to explore the historic Surf Ballroom and Museum! They gained knowledge and inspiration as they prepare for their Battle of the Bands on Presentation Night on Wednesday!
Perfect partnership on Day 6 of May Term as "coaching staffs" from Wanna Be A Coach utilized the communication and feedback skills, constructive criticism, and body language learning to coach Live Strong teams in their 4 v 4 hoops tourney. There was no Bobby Knight chair throwing moment, but many Coack K and Coach Pat Summit talks!

What happens when high school students step out of the traditional classroom and spend two weeks fully immersed in hands-on, project-based learning? Come find out!
We invite parents, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, community members, and area businesses to join us for our May Term Public Presentation Night. Our students have been working incredibly hard, and they are excited to share their real-world creations, skills, and experiences with a live audience.

⏰ Time: 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM
📍 Where: Okoboji High School
Instead of final exams, our students end the year by making their learning public through interactive presentations and live demonstrations. Come see firsthand what they’ve accomplished! May Term is all about critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world application. Our students have done an incredible job, and they can’t wait to show you what they've learned and done.

Students in our Frontline Fundamentals class met with Army, Marine and state patrol on day three of May Term! They learned room clearing tactics and played dodgeball in the dark with night vision goggles.
On day three our What's Cooking class took omelette orders from staff members and had fun making and delivering them! Reviews from the staff were all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Live Strong day 3! Pickleball tournament, healthy food shopping, and yoga with Ethnee Jorgensen!
In Our Self Care Era spent the morning of the third day at Nelson Acreage and thrift stores to focus on sustainability. In the afternoon they had Miranda Miler from Shift lead an awesome yoga session!
Craft Happens spent day three making mosaics at the Pearson Lakes Art Center. In a couple of the pictures you will see them using a hammer to make the pieces smaller. The sound of the hammers breaking glass dispelled the myth that art is always a quiet pursuit!
Day three of May Term saw VITAL Flow participating in a Breath Workshop at The Shift with Miranda AND going to the YMCA to be treated by Makiyah to a Floating Sound Immersion.
What a relaxing way to spend the day!
Students in A Living Mural spent the third day of May Term beginning work on their large mural projects. You won't want to miss these awesome displays on Public Presentation Night, Wednesday, May 20 from 5-7:30PM!
Our Craft Happens class spent the first day working on paper projects and today started learning about and experimenting with stained glass!
Frontline Fundamentals started the day with a ruck march to the Milford Police Station where they got to learn about police training and check out the Milford squad cars. In the afternoon they went to Lakes Regional Hospital and learned about the role of emergency responders and the ambulance crew. They even got to try their hand at some EMT training!
Our What's Cooking class spent time at Sunshine Foods today learning how to make sushi! The kids got to take home some of the things they made!
So you wanna be a coach may term spent the morning on an athletic facilities tour with Head Football Coach Matt McCarty. Coach McCarty talked about his roles and responsibilities as a college head football and as a head high school baseball coach. Students quickly realized the importance of high level communication skills! Director of Athletic Performance Kyle Ochsner and Director of Athletic Training Seth Wolles discussed how they work together along with coaches to keep Northwestern athletes healthy and ready for competition.
We also heard from Head Baseball Coach Brian Wede, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Morgan Swedorski and Defense Coordinator Brett Moser who shared their coaching philosophy, coaches who had a great impact on them, how they build relationships with players and give feedback/constructive criticism. They also shared their 3 words to describe coaching: rewarding, chaotic, family. They also added fun. 😀 we took a moment to snap a picture by Okoboji alumni Landon Duvall's locker in the impressive new football locker room. Thank you to Coach McCarty and Northwestern College for a great day!
Homesteading 101 continued their learning of living sustainably & growing their own plants by visiting 4-Evergreen & Cottage Garden’s greenhouses, planting their own mini greenhouses, & touring the operation at Kenny Halbur’s farm with Kizze as their guide!
VITAL FLOW went to Drip Okoboji & Natural Family Chiropractic today. Students experienced the float tank, infrared sauna, lymphatic compression therapy, cupping, vibration plate, massage chair and red light therapy. Thank you Brenda Hassel, Dr. Shanna Clabaugh, and Rachel Wavra for your time with us today.
Students in the Live Strong class heard from Matthew and Molly of Okoboji Wellness today about health and wellness before finishing the day kayaking and paddle boarding on East Lake Okoboji. What an incredible opportunity for our students — not many classrooms get experiences like this!
